The Man HON. ZAKARI MOHAMMED Mai-Jamaa!


Hon. Zakari Mohammed hails from Gure, Baruten Local 
Government Area of Kwara State. He was born to Lafia Mohammed, an 
educaƟonist of a royal lineage and Nana Hauwa. He was brought up 
under strict and humble Islamic religious tenets.
AŌer his primary educaƟon, he aƩended Borgu Secondary 
School, New Bussa where he obtained his West African School 
CerƟficate. He then aƩended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the 
InternaƟonal InsƟtute of Journalism, and the University of Ilorin and 
obtained diploma in Civil Law, and another in Journalism, Degree in 
Sociology and Anthropology, and Master's Degree in Criminology. He has 
a cerƟficate in the ‘Emerging Leaders’ Program from the presƟgious 
Harvard Kennedy School of Government. 
Hon. Zakari Mohammed has rich experience in public service. 
He began his career as an Assistant Producer of programs at the Kwara 
State BroadcasƟng CorporaƟon. He also worked as a Kwara State 
Government House correspondent and as Senior Reporter/Producer of 
sports programs and broadcasts of important state occasions in Kwara 
State.
He reƟred from broadcasƟng in the year 2002 for acƟve poliƟcs. 
From 2003-2007, he was appointed Special Assistant on Sports MaƩers 
to the ExecuƟve Governor of Kwara State; Commissioner for Sports and 
Youth Development from 2007-2009 and then Commissioner for Energy, 
Kwara State from 2009-2010.
He sat on the Board of Kwara United Football Club, Kwara 
Football Academy and the NYSC Governing Board, Kwara State.
In 2011, he was elected member of the Federal House of 
RepresentaƟves represenƟng Baruten/Kaiama Federal ConsƟtuency 
and served as Chairman – House CommiƩee on Media and Public Affairs. 
He got re-elected in 2015 and is currently the Chairman – House 
CommiƩee on Basic EducaƟon and Services. 
Zakari Mohammed holds the tradiƟonal Ɵtle of Lafia Yeruma of 
Kpelle Kingdom, Benin Republic. 
The erudite law maker is also an accomplished family man. He is 
married to Hajia Kofo Khairat Zakari and Hajia Halima Adesuwa Zakari. 
The marriages are blessed with lovely children.

It’s no longer a news that Friday 18th February, 2022 will be for the turbaning ceremony of Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, CON, as the new Tafida of Ilorin Emirate following his appointment about a couple of months ago by His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari, CFR, the Emir of Ilorin.  Of everything that defines Alh.
